Pictures & Ear Piercing
I took some pictures of Taeya taking her first nap in her crib the other day. (She usually sleeps in the bassinet next to my bed). She doesn't really like her crib though because she likes to be right next to someone. If she's left alone where she can't see me, she tends to start crying. I don't even have to pick her up to get her to stop; she just has to see me. Although I really like having her next to me at night for the convenience, after my friend, Kristin, leaves next week, I'm going to try to get Taeya to start sleeping in her crib. We'll see how that goes.
Check out her adorable bunny slippers that she's wearing. Thanks Rebecca H! We LOVE them! The outfit is from my Mom who loves hearts. It's soft and warm so I like dressing her in it these days. She has very long fingers just like me. My fingers are very long.
So, for the ear piercing story: Phil and I decided long ago that if we ever had a little girl, we'd want to pierce her ears as an infant. We decided to go out today to have it done. Part of me did not want to do it because I don't want to hurt my beautiful baby and I don't want the holes to go in the wrong place because her ears are so tiny. We decided to go ahead with it. We went to our "mall" and first went to JC Penny's. They don't pierce ears but said Claire's did. We went to Claire's and asked if they could do both ears at the same time. The girl said the policy had changed and only children 3 years and older could have them done at the same time. What?? That's stupid! So, Phil and I talked and decided we would do both ear individually. Then the girl asked how old our baby was. I told her that she was 1 month and 1 week old. The girl then said that they couldn't pierce the ears unless the baby was over 3 months old? Grrrr!!! Aren't you SUPPOSED to pierce infant's ears before 3 months so they don't pull on them? We asked if there was anywhere else we could have Taeya's ear pierced. She recommended that we go to a tattoo parlor in town. Um, I don't feel comfortable going to a tattoo parlor myself let alone taking my infant daughter to one. So, we were out of luck today. So, at this point, I guess it's not going to happen anytime soon unless we go to another town.

Hey, I would do some calling before going anywhere else.. I am pretty sure the general rule is 3 months.
Megs- Generally most won't pierce untill they are 3 months old. BUT- here's something you didn't know... ready for it.... it's really cool.... YOUR DOCTORS OFFICE WILL!! Yeah for STERILE sharps! And VERY CLEAN HANDS! After taking Gracie to Walmart at 2.5 months ( we lied to them about her age...) and having them MESS UP(!) we took her to her pedi and it was great! I did the same thing with Court. Call your doctor and see! :)
Just as an FYI about tattoo parlors...I was totally sceptical too, but my bro convinced me to tag along and watch him get one. While there, I was totally impressed with the sterile environment! The guys all have to be certified through the Red Cross or something...they all had certificates displayed on knowing how to deal with the bloodborne pathogens, etc. Anyways, I know it's still kinda weird, but I honestly was impressed with how clean and sanitary and professional it was! (Probably even more so then Claires!)
Brianna was 6 months old and never touched them. Still doesn't at nearly two.
We did them at walmart. On infants they like to do both ears at the same time. B didn't cry the first ear, cried a tinsy bit the second ear only because she was upset to be held still.
Thank you all for your advice. I'm definitely going to ask at the doctor's office if they'll pierce Taeya's ears. I also don't feel so bad about waiting longer. Thank you all.
Good luck finding a place. She'll look adorable. :)
Our pediatrician adviced us to do Kenna's before she was 3 months or else to wait until she was 3!!! Well...Our place wouldnt do them until she was 3 months, so we told a little fib about her age! We pierced them on July 5th (when she was 12 weeks old) but she didnt turn 3 months until the 12th!! As for them messing up...yep, they did with Kenna!! She moved just as they went to do the second ear so the girl took out the earring and pierced it again!! But within 24 hours the first mess up hole closed up!!
Taeya is just so cute!!!! i LOVE those little bunny slippers :)
good luck with the ear piercing thing - i have no advice or experience, but hope you're able to get it done safely :)
Megan, I just go the birth annoucement in the mail :0), thanks! She's so precious....good luck on finding a place to do the piercing!
